Jekyll Island

As the days left in our summer vacation dwindle down, we decided to take off one Friday afternoon and head up to Jekyll Island in Georgia. As most of the island is a state park it is always uncrowded and beautiful and since it's just about a couple of hours away it's a nice quick mini-vacation.

The water at Jeklyll is shallow so it's nice and warm and has very few waves.  Emory and Ellie had fun squeezing into a tube together.  I think they laughed more trying to walk around in it together than they did when floating in the water together!
We decided to bring Owen and Piper with us along for the trip.  We brought Madi and Kelsey with us many years ago before we even moved to Florida and they loved being able to run on the beaches.  To our surprise they both ran right to the water and went in when we first got there...even Owen!  I don't really think that he realized what was going on exactly and just followed Piper.  It was his first and only trip into the water for the day!

Piper had a fabulous time chasing her frisbee.  It's definitely one of her favorite toys and she was able to run and chase it over and over and over.  She brought it back every time and even tried to catch it a few times in mid air.  I think that was Piper's idea of the perfect day!

Owen on the other hand only did a little running around after his first initial dip in the water when we first arrived at the beach.  After we got all of the chairs and umbrella set up he found himself a nice comfy spot and spent most of the rest of the day there taking it all in.

Between playing in the ocean and throwing the frisbee to Piper, Emory and Ellie squeezed in a few other favorite beach activities.  Emory played football and soccer and Ellie made a pool on the beach for her Barbies.  Dan and I were able to enjoy a little time sitting back and reading and just enjoyed watching the kids play.  This is what all summer days should be like!
By the middle of the afternoon, Owen had had enough fun and curled up for a little nap in his chair.  This boy can sleep anywhere!
We stayed until almost 9pm waiting for low tide and for the famous Jekyll Island sand bar to show so that we could search for sand dollars and big shells.  For some strange reason (incoming storms?) we never saw the sandbar and had to leave because it was so dark...but we will be back!
